History of Sublet

And they say you can’t meet anyone online...

After responding to a Craigslist sublet posting during college, Inessah found herself dragging two suitcases up three flights of stairs to meet her new roommate, Tara. Finding themselves with a lot in common such as Inessah being unable to find a more permanent place, and Tara living her motto,
“The more the merrier,” the initial two weeks turned into three months.

Two years later, after having worked traditional careers, Tara and Inessah missed the spontaneous community, independence and creativity they felt when subletting. So over lunch one day, they decided they would create their own permanent sublet through Sublet Clothing.

Mission

Our mission is to be the go-to source for stylish and truly wearable clothing for the eco-minded consumer.

We simply aim to cultivate a community that brings care to the garment industry and style to sustainable design. In an age of mass production, we only produce what we love and mull over every detail from the hem of a t-shirt to the drape of a cowl.

Our hope is that every garment is special to the wearer, and will take them through a lifetime of temporary settings.

History of Us

Tara + Inessah = Sublet Clothing

Tara

Born and raised in New York, Tara loves taking chances on people, which is why subletting is almost a hobby for her. Plastic shopping bags are officially unwelcome at her apartment, but just about anything else goes.

Widely known fact: Tara has a difficult time turning down social situations that involve the words "brunch" and "board games."

Inessah

Having a vagabond childhood, Inessah spent most of her life moving around different military bases every few years. Never settling down for too long, she has embraced temporary living situations and traveling light from an early age.

Widely known fact: Inessah cannot go past furniture left on the street without wanting to foster
it in her apartment. She has also been known to throw kitchen scraps out her window in the name
of composting.
